Coffee Makers: Everyday Heros

I wake up every morning and saunter down the stairs half-asleep. The sun is barely on the horizon and, while rubbing my eyes trying to shake that sleepy feeling, I make my way to the kitchen. Once I'm in the kitchen my routine sets in...Walk to the right cabinet, middle shelf and grab one of the filter paper cones. I open the can of coffee and the smell alone is starting to perk me up. I quickly measure the water, put the cone with coffee grounds in the machine and hit the "on" button. This process probably sounds familiar to many of you who can't bear the thought of a morning without their cup of coffee. This every day luxury is something we have come to take for granted. Have you ever stopped to wonder where the coffee maker came from?

Coffee Maker Reviews

When it comes down to coffee makers my two favorite are the Keurig B-60 single cup brewer and the Saeco Super Automatic Espresso Machine. The Keurig B-60 single cup brewer is presented in a sleek and stylish package that is sure to impress. The black and silver accents and modern shape are a perfect fit with any kitchen. The B-60 is easy to clean, programmable and efficient. The B-60 has a stylish blue liquid crystal display with digital alarm clock for easy programming. The Keurig B-60 also has a great temperature-adjusting feature that allows you to set the temperature of your coffee. The number one reason why I like the Keurig B-60 single cup brewer is that fact that it can brew coffee within seconds. The B-60 also uses K-cups for a wide range of flavors and strengths. The water reservoir on this model holds 48-ounces, which is enough for 8 cups of coffee. Next on my list is the Fully Automatic Espresso/Coffee Machine. Wow what a machine! This thing can do it all. The Saeco Talea Giro does coffee, espresso, cappuccino, mochas, lattes and more with just the touch of a button. The new Saeco coffee maker allows you to make endless varieties of coffee with just the turn of a knob and the push of a button. It's the equivalent of having a full service coffee shop at your disposal every morning. Do you hate grinding beans in the morning? Just set the Saeco Automatic Espresso Machine and it will automatically grind fresh beans and brew creamy espresso every morning with just the press of a button. This machine also allows you to control the exact volume and strength of your coffee by pressing a few buttons on the control panel. With all this variety, I bet your thinking the Saeco is a nightmare to clean. Well you are wrong! The Saeco not only makes endless varieties of coffee but it cleans up in only 30 seconds. What more could you ask for? But sadly, the only thing is the Saeco is only available at specialty stores and select retailers.

Single Cup Coffee Makers

Since coffee makers have been existence, there has been the single cup coffee makers. Back in the 1800's it was a luxury to drink fresh brewed coffee 1 cup at a time, whenever you wanted it. Since then many manufacturers uphold this belief. Manufacturers such as Keurig have been building single cup coffee makers for years. Unlike the percolators of the 1800's these machines have multiple brew settings, automatic on and off and high powered brewing systems. Other manufacturers on the market such as Senseo have high-speed coffee makers that can brew single serving in less than a minute. Machines like this one use pods that come in over 100 flavors and have no messy grinding or flavor cross over.

A little History Of Coffee Makers & Their Purpose

For hundreds of years coffee was not brewed in a pot, but in a pan. Hot water was added to the pan then it was covered with a lid. After the coffee smelled done, it was poured into a cup - coffee grounds and all. In 1865 James Madison invented the coffee percolator. His percolator was based on the principal that heating water expands and can be directed with a tube. When the water would travel up the tube it was then dipped over ground coffee beans held in a metal basket. Throughout history, the goal of coffee makers was to provide a more enjoyable coffee drinking experience.
